Rangers won the SPL title in nail-biting fashion with only goal difference favouring the Ibrox side over their bitterest rivals Celtic.
Ahead by 3-1 at half time thanks to goals by Michael Mols, Claudio Caniggia, and Shota Arveladze, the home side knew they had to keep on scoring with Celtic on their tails.
Further goals in the second half by Ronald de Boer and Steven Thompson were added to in the final minute with a coolly taken penalty by Mikel Arteta.
After waiting a few anxious moments, the scoreline came through from Rugby Park amid scenes of jubilation at Ibrox.
Rangers started well with a goal in the second minute when Mols shot home off the base of the post and de Boer should have made it two but headed wide after a perfect Caniggia cross.
Ibrox fell silent when Jason Dair crashed home an equaliser from a Craig Brewster pass but Rangers went ahead five minutes later when Caniggia shot home after sterling work by Fernando Ricksen.
Derek Stillie in the Dunfermline goal then did well to block a Mols effort before Arveladze glanced home a marvellous Lorenzo Amoruso cross after the central defender had done well to keep the ball in play.
Early in the second half, Stefan Klos made a great save to deny Brewster before two goals arrived in quick succession for the home side.
De Boer powerfully headed home Neil McCann's cross and then Thompson bundled home an Arteta cross.
The two substitutes made a substantial difference to Rangers in the second half and it was McCann who was brought down in the final minute before Arteta made it six from the penalty spot and ensured the title went to Rangers.
