Stephen Hughes gave Rangers a last-gasp win at Easter Road with a superb injury-time strike.
Just when it looked as if Hibs would hold on for a draw, Hughes was not picked up in the area and he swept the ball into the net.
Rangers started strongly and had a chance in the first minute when Peter Lovenkrands was not picked up at a corner but he glanced his header wide.
But Hibs took control after that and looked sharper to the ball and more enterprising in midfield.
A Derek Riordan shot dipped just over Stefan's Klos' crossbar and then a Scott Brown half-volley hit the side-netting.
Ian Murray then had one of the misses of the season as Rangers were sliced open again.
An Alen Orman cross was dummied by Grant Brebner and Murray somehow managed to send his shot over the crossbar from just three yards out with only Klos to beat.
The miss did not discourage the home side and Mathias Doumbe saw a shot cleared off the line by Shota Arveladze after Colin Murdock had headed on a corner.
Michael Mols had a rare chance for Rangers shortly before half-time but Daniel Andersson covered his goal well to block the striker's shot.
Rangers looked much more purposeful after the break and Arveladze should have done better than slice his shot well wide after Murdock had lost possession in midfield.
Lovenkrands then wasted a great chance when he managed to get in front of Orman but could not get enough power in his shot and Andersson saved comfortably.
Rangers also had a strong penalty claim turned down when Lovenkrands tumbled in the penalty area after a challenge by Murdock.
Lovenkrands then made the wrong choice in the 60th minute when he went for goal instead of electing to square the ball to Mols, who had an open goal in front of him.
Hibs had lost their grip on the game as Rangers laid siege to their goal and Fernando Ricksen was next to try his luck from the edge of the area but the ball was always drifting wide.
The unfortunate Lovenkrands had another bad miss late on when Egil Ostenstad pulled the ball back, but he completely missed his kick from just ten yards out.
However, Hughes finally gave Rangers the win two minutes into injury-time.
