Young Scots Hit Four

Scotland's Under-21 side overwhelmed Iceland 4-0 at
Firhill tonight in a Friendly International watched by
a meagre 1,024 spectators on a bitterly cold evening.

The Scots included Charlie Adam in the starting
line-up, and got off to the perfect start inside the
first minute when Steven Naismith created an opening
for himself before rifling the ball home.

The Kilmarnock forward turned creator in 19 minutes
when his run ended with a cross to Calum Elliot whose
shot was blocked only to break to Martin Scott who
netted with ease.

Three minutes later Adam almost made it 3-0 with a
blistering 25-yard shot that Icelandic goalkeeper
Magnus Thormar turned wide.

The third goal was merely delayed however - Elliot
finding the net from Martin Scott's cross in 28
minutes.

The Hearts centre added a fourth twelve minutes after
the interval, curling the ball over the head of
Thormar.

There was an injury scare for the Scots in 68 minutes
- Zander Diamond and Calum Elliot suffering a clash of
heads that led to both being substituted, former
Ranger Tom Brighton coming on for the Aberdeen
defender.
