Weekend Racing Advice

Musselburgh has the running of it’s major race of the season today and it looks pretty trappy. Corridor Creeper looks more likely to run at Goodwood but if he does run here he would be my selection. This is a race where the draw can be very important and a low draw has been a distinct advantage in the past. A horse who always seems to run well at this venue is Ptarmigan Ridge and he can do so again at a big price. Others to give serious consideration to in an extremely open event are Forever Phoenix, River Falcon and The Lord with slight preference for Forever Phoenix.
At Goodwood Majestic Missile has the form to win the 2.20 but meets a rival at the top of his form in Corridor Creeper. If Corridor Creeper runs here instead of at Musselburgh I would be inclined to give him the nod.
The 2.50 sees Eisteddfod, a horse I like a lot, at the top of the weights. He had a good season last year but is paying for that with the weight he has to carry now. I still think there is improvement in him and I think he will win a good sprint handicap this year. It may even be the Ayr Gold Cup to go with the Silver Cup he won last year. I have doubts over his ability to handle the course at Goodwood and prefer to leave this to rapid improver Intrepid Jack who has won his two races this season in the style of a decent horse in the making.
The 3.25 sees Rubuttal who we selected last week when he was a non-runner return to the racecourse. He looks to be a horse with a bright future and should not be unduly pressed to win this as he has about a stone in hand of his rivals on official figures.
The 4.35 at Goodwood sees the return of Barolo who is a most game and genuine horse. He can be a bit lazy and needs plenty of driving but I think he can help get Walter Swinburn’s season moving forward. He has most to fear here from Orange Touch and New South Wales.
