Week-end Euro football bulletin week 2
Beginning with the Bundesliga.
Bayern made it six points out of six with a 2-1 victory away at Boch - Lahm and Makaay scoring the goals for the current championS. In truth Bayern were lucky to take all the points, as Bochum controlled the game for long spells.
Werder Bremen are joint top with the Bavarians - after beating Bayer Leverkusen at home 2-1 - with a goal from new Brazilian signing Diego (who was with Porto last season).
The favourite team of many Bears - Hamburg - could only draw again - this time 2-2 away at Energie Cottbus - it's been a bad start for Thomas Doll's men who were expected to mount another serious title challenge.
Moving onto The French Ligue 1. Franck Ribery was again sensational in leading Marseille to a 3-0 win against Auxerre - the win sent the Velodrome club to the top of the table on Saturday night. Odds on favourites for another title Lyon - won 2-1 away at Bordeaux.
Most of you will already know the outcome of Barca and Espanyol in The Spanish Supercup - Real Madrid were in action too - in a pre-season tourney down in Cadiz - despite fielding a strong side in both games - 'los blancos' proceeded to lose twice - against Betis and a Riquelme inspired Villarreal
The main transfer story of the week was also in Spain - with Diarra signing for Madrid from Lyon for a cool 18.5 million.
Still a few weeks till Serie A kicks off - yet the quote of the week once again comes from the peninsula -
“Inter have the Scudetto, but on the pitch Juventus always win. Watch and learn, Nerazzurri.”
Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport has a good gloat after the Bianconeri's Trofeo Moretti victory against Inter.
In Holland the league season kicked off with Shota's AZ Alkmaar - winning 8-1 - Feyenoord were hammered 3-0 at Groningen - and Ajax beat Waalwijk 5-0 - Wesley Sneijder scoring two.
