Seemingly the bookies took a bashing on the Grand National at Aintree. Yeah and I believe that one too. I dont know anyone that made muach, far less got a decent result. The circus moves North to Ayr this weekend with the running of the Scottish National. Far less taxing than Aintree, and a better chance to make a few bob. I look for horses that were good enough for Aintree, but got unlucky. A horse that ran that distance last week, in unlikely to make much impression this week. A horse that wasnt good enough to be there, isn't going to be any better now.
So that narrows the field down a bit.
First name that jumps out is SHOTGUN WILLY. Favourite last week, he pulled up when his jockey thought he had burst a blood vessel. That proved untrue, he runs this weekend, and is very hard to oppose. He will carry top weight, but unless the round turns heavy, that wont be a problem.
Another horse to keep an eye on is GUNTHER McBRIDE. A keen runner, with a good record, he knows the Ayr Chase course well, and will last the distance.
My final pick is a sentimental one. BERLIN BLUE would appear to have little chance, but my daughter lives near Berlin, and hey back anything in Blue just now.
Happy punting, and get your winnings on de Boer for first goal on Sunday.
