The Gub's Week

So it is world record title No 50 for the teddies. I suppose there are a million and one stories out there all with their own unique take on what happened last Sunday. For my part I cannot say that it was enjoyable.  If I had one, I don't know if the Police hat would have been on my head or used as a chanty during the game. Certainly there was happiness at the end, although it still took me a couple of hours to come round to feeling elated.
I just think the day was so emotionally draining and I would hope I never have to go through it again.

What a performance from the team though, and Barman and moi's pre match assessment that we would need to score at least 5 or 6 goals because the yahoos would run up a comfortable victory at Kilmarnock proved to be true. There were no let downs on the day but I thought that the introduction of Neil McCann was the turning point. He put in a smashing shift and the delight he displayed at the fifth goal as he ran over to the Govan  stand was great to see. McCann is the type of player that thrives on confidence  and he fully deserves to start in the Cup final that is for sure.

Then we had the oh so crucial save at 3-1 from Der Goalie. I know Bazza has cornered a lot of the plaudits for this year. But he has in my opinion been matched by Klos all season and ably assisted in the craft and guile stakes by de Boer.

Keeping with the subject of Barry Ferguson if I may. I see has now been pencilled in to undergo his operation on June 2nd. As I've said earlier it would have been an absolute disgrace and sheer unprofessionalism if he  had played for Scotland against Germany. In fact if it were up to me I would have him in for his operation this week and wouldn't even risk him against Dundee in the Scottish Cup final. The reason for this would be two fold.

First off we shouldn't need him to beat the Dee men. And secondly it would take away at a stroke any arguments the 'Scotch dregs' who have already started their oh so predictable small time hatred elsewhere on the  Internet. It is now blatantly obvious that Barry Ferguson has reached his limit carrying this injury.

SUTTON SOILS SEPTIC¹S SHATTERED SEASON
If there was unconfined joy and fair play on show at Ibrox on Sunday thenthere was the usual hatred and obnoxious sportsmanship on display down in Ayrshire. What is there left to say about the yahoos?

Sutton's comments about 'Dunfermline lying down to Rangers' to me were an absolute joy to behold and summed up to perfection what
Cesspitfootballclub are all about. For the biggest cheat in Scottish football (well  Larsson's equal anyway) to accuse Dunfermline of lying down after his team mates had been exhorting Kilmarnock goalkeeper Gordon Marshall to let in more goals beggars belief. But hey, that's Timothy for you.

They truly are a cancer running through the heart of Scottish society. From the days of Maley and his mouthpieces at The Glasgow Observer right up  to the present day they have been wholesale purveyors of poison. And the fact that Sutton has not been pulled up by his manager or any of the yahoo directors shows that his words were said on behalf of that whole stinking foetid apology for a sporting organisation.

Oh and while we're about it. That piece of trash, Bill Leckie, said last year in the wake of the yahoos' 'Milk, Lemonade, Chocolate' T-shirts nonsense, that Rangers would also act in this fashion. I wouldn't hold  my breath mind you waiting for the likes of Leckie to hold up his hands and admit he got it wrong. Scum is as scum does, I suppose.

CHILDREN OF A LESSER GOD
And so the dehumanisation of the Rangers support continues. Sadly we had to read during the week of the case of 'Tragic Rangers fan Steven Jardine  who suffered sever brain damage when he was attacked in the street by a teenager wearing a Celtic strip.' So severe was the beating that Mr Jardine died  two months later.

But once again folks, this is a sectarian murder with a twist. Because 'spookily enough' Nil By Mouth have once again refused to comment on this appalling 'sectarian' attack on a defenceless man. Let's see now Frank Forrester, the invisible 8 dead bluenoses that Spiers refused to  mention and now Steven Jardine. Does anyone else see a pattern emerging here?

We here at Follow Follow have told you consistently since Nil By Mouth was thrust into the spotlight in November 2000, that this particular organisation (although founded on the highest of ideals) actually exists to further ulterior motives. And that is to link Rangers and only Rangers  with sectarianism. Wake up folks before it is YOUR son, or YOUR old man or YOUR brother who is lying on a mortuary slab, ignored in death by these hypocrites.

Goodness knows the poor sods who are going to be voted onto The Rangers Supporters Trust's inaugural board are going to be positively swamped by countless hundreds if not thousands of individual wish lists. I would like to think that taking on an organisation that simply ignores the sectarian murders of Rangers fans (and that is what NBM consistently does) is  going to
be something that is high on the agenda. Last point on the Nil for  Rangers lot for the moment. I see that a Masonic Hall in Sighthill has been burnt down this week. Like the sectarian murders of Rangers fans, NBM have kept that one a secret as well.

The Scottish Cup Final

So it's Scottish Cup final time once again and it is Dundee, whose performance against us a few weeks ago remains very vivid in the memory, who stand between Rangers and the chance of a seventh treble. Hopefully the  sun will be shining and with the pressure off the team I'm expecting the side to produce some of the quality football we know they are capable of.

I'm also looking for a good atmosphere and our opposite numbers in the Dundee support will be out to party in style too. Look out in particular, if you get the chance, for a sight of the 'Perth, Dundee Supporters Club'.  This lot, and I mean the whole bus, have been having a ball for years.

Apparently they have 'theme' days and the whole bus dress up exactly the same. They've went to matches I believe dressed as old women complete with the  cardigan, pearls, Harris tweed skirts etc, etc. They've dressed up as aliens'  etc. I think we can safely say they won't be dressed as 'Arabs' on Saturday  but
other than that it is anyone's guess. I tell you, there must be some  quality spliffs going round at this lots' monthly meetings. Anyway, people who  bring some fun into the game are to be encouraged, so fair play to the PDSC.

The Scottish Cup hasn't been the kindest of cups to our opponents. There's an old saying in Dundee that goes; 'Nineteen-Ten and never again.'  After they won the Cup that year v Clyde (at Ibrox I believe) the club showed  off the cup in a funeral parlour. So there you go another piece of useless information brought to you courtesy of Govanhill.

If I'm not mistaken they've only ever reached another three previous  finals since then. Nineteen twenty-five v the yahoos, which apparently is remembered for a goal by Patsy Gallagher when he somersaulted into the net with both feet holding the ball. There was a rumour going around back then that the Dundee manager left out his three most creative players that day and played his centre half in midfield. But c'mon only a cynic could
possibly think a Dundee manager would ever behave in that way.

Their next appearance was against Motherwell in 1952 when a colossal  136,000 turned up to see if Dundee could bring off a domestic cup double. They  had fluked a League Cup win v the teddies earlier on in the campaign you  see. ;-)

Rangers gained sweet revenge a dozen years on in what up till this year  is Dundee's last appearance in the Scottish Cup final. Nineteen sixty-four was the year and it was to be a 'Hard Day's Night for Dundee goalkeeper Bert Slater. For he it was who nearly brought the Hampden house down with a virtuoso performance, which kept Rangers at bay until two goals in the last 90 seconds of play gave Rangers a deserved 3-1 victory, and whisper it,  a treble.

There is one marvellous sporting moment in that game however that has been continually overlooked down through the years. Should any of the younger generation get the chance to see some highlights of the 64 final tonight (And surely there has to be a good chance on the news bulletins this evening looking ahead to the Cup final?) then watch out for Rangers Davie Wilson and his opponent that day, Alex Hamilton, after Dundee have equalised.

Wilson is already standing out wide in the left wing position as  Rangers get ready to kick off again. Hamilton comes back down the park from celebrating his side's goal to take his position opposite Wilson, and Davie is there waiting to greet him with a handshake. In fact I think they're still  shaking hands when Rangers kick off again. It is a wonderful show of sportsmanship from two opponents who must have had a wonderful respect for each  other.

Hopefully this wee magic snippet of sport will be shown sometime today, and I want each and every one of you to savour the beauty of it, and  compare and contrast with that weasel Sutton and his club last Sunday. Oh, and PS,  don't think for a minute that everyone behaved civilly when their opponent
scored way back then. As anyone who has ever seen wee Stinky's antics after  Kai Johansen's rocket at Hampden just two years later.

So another nice, wee chapter in the Club's history can be written this weekend. A day when Alex McLeish can say he achieved something that  Bill Struth did. Somehow I think the Guv'nor will be up there pleased at this present manager's dignity in adversity and financial hardship. If we win this cup tomorrow, and I fully expect to do so, then I think this man McLeish deserves praise the likes of which we've never bestowed on a  manager in modern times.

Just do it Rangers,
