It is reported that Rangers are showing an interest in Japanese star Atsushi Yamagisawa, the Ibrox club seemingly have had talks with J-League side Kashima Antlers.
The 24 yr. old striker is also being watched by Serie A side Perugia. A Kashima spokesman has confirmed that Rangers are interested in one of their players.
Should McLeish be interested in going ahead and purchase the striker it would cost about £2 million, but David Murray might be willing to pay that as it would allow Rangers to break into the lucrative Japanese market.
In the meantime it has also been confirmed that Frank de Boer will not team up with his brother at Ibrox. Frank has hinted that if he leaves Spain he would prefer to play in England instead of the SPL.
