In hospital A&E's, on trains and buses and many other places you see signs about violence against staff being unacceptable and will not be tolerated and quite right too. You would like to think that it applies to the public too, though perhaps not for those members of the public known as Rangers fans in Manchester.
Now, there is no case to make in defence of those supposed Rangers fans who perpetrated violence that day in May: however like many of you I know of a number of bears harassed and threatened and beaten by the Police that evening in May, innocent bears merely trying to get to their hotel or home on the train/bus. If the police are going to ask us to help them catch the thugs amongst our numbers how about they lead the way and start by disciplining those within their ranks? We might also ask why there is no clamour for an independent public inquiry into the complete mishandling of the day? If the Police treated an ethnic minority in the manner they treat your average football fan there would be claims of institutional bias, and crowds would be swelled as we all took our social worker to the match with us. No point in even mentioning let alone hoping our club would be at the forefront of any demands for an inquiry into the failings of the Police, Manchester council etc.
They just don't care.
It also seems these days, our freedom of speech has been eroded by an over eager PC attitude prevailing in our society. And free speech is a no-no down Ibrox way these days, anyone exercising this right can expect the full might of SDM's media poodles snapping at the ankles along with his more malevolent supporters within the fanbase who will hurl abuse and even spit at any fellow gers fan expressing the notion that "we deserve better". Still you have to hand it to SDM - his strange form of mind control can have such folk falling for the same piece of spin time after time, we can only hope that each time it is fewer and fewer who are duped by him.
The other aspect of this restriction on freedom of speech is of course the media onslaught regarding anything that we sing being deemed offensive -jeez we even had them slabbering about a song we had no intention of singing. It truly is a breathtaking piece of double standards that a spokesman of the Roman Church can speak of the sinister meanings of the hokey cokey and some daft MSP can be duped into giving it his backing.
It is equally predictable from the media in siding with SDM and doing HIS personal bidding for him. I always thought, foolishly obviously, the media liked getting behind the little man; the underdog. Nope not our Fourth Estate. We have no sporting John Pilger though there are a few that would like to think of themselves in that role, however they fail to grasp that the yahoos are now the establishment club and have been for a long time. Still why do the easy thing and defend the ordinary football supporter when they can do the even easier thing and tow the party line with SDM and Liewell.
When I refer to SDM and his media control it is only ever used for him, never the club or us the fans. He gets a bit of criticism from the RST in the form of the 17 points of the WDB campaign and within the hour of its release he has his poodles in to get his defence out there and it will be sustained until after the transfer window shuts.
Strange that isn't it, I can't remember too many times, if any, in the past decade that he has had the media in so sharp to defend the name of the club or the fans let alone any sustained defence of them. Not one single sports journo had the cahonies to ask "Right Sir David can we go through these 17 points and give the fans an answer?" Seems the only answer he has given is that there is a bumper crop of youngsters ready to be harvested from Murray Park, which could sound more like crystal ball gazing and it's difficult to debate that as nobody really knows yet and by the time we do SDM may well be gone.
When SDM said of the RST and website mischief makers "they offer no solutions" did not one of the hacks there think "hold on a minute Sir Dave where are your solutions?" These are your "customers": if you complain to Tesco's chief exec about the customer service he does not respond with a "what do you want me to do, where's your solution?" You have a chief exec on an over-inflated rate to provide the solutions: why ask these people you obviously have a great deal of disdain for to provide the solution?
A couple of quotes from Sir Winston Churchill to herald the beginning of the end:
"An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last."
That would be you Sir Dave - feeding the trust and the fans in general to an all too compliant media in an attempt to stave them off and avoid having to answer any awkward questions.
"All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honour, duty, mercy, hope."
Wise words from Sir Winston, Sir David. You see, SDM, we as fans want to be free to express ourselves; we want justice to be done but not just to those supposed Rangers fans in Manchester but the Police and the council too; we want you to act in an honourable manner with the fans and stop the lies and misleading statements; we want you and your hired hands to do their duty for the club; we want you to show mercy for those who seek answers from you and finally we hope you can turn this around we hope you can deliver a successful Rangers again.
If not we hope you can leave amicably and give someone else the chance to deliver the aspirations of the support.
