The reaction to the events of this long weekend are important in two respects:
1. They strike a terminal blow to the idea of a republican Britain in the forseeable future (and beyond).
2. They show up as risible and truly pathetic the extremists within our midst who affect to be offended by the flag and the institution of Monarchy. Stamps, biscuits, flags, bunting, weddings. One can only imagine the reaction if the Yahoo bottle bursts in the next few weeks...
