Remembrance Sunday and football

There were some confusing posts on the website yesterday regarding how Armistice Day would be marked this weekend.

In Scotland the situation is per the statement on the SPL website:-

Poppy Scotland are happy with the publicity, donations, collections and the facilitation of other events. There is no direct order to have a silence or any other specific form of marking the day.

I also called the Premiership in England and their advice to clubs is to have the weekend "marked in an appropriate way." Exactly how is up to the clubs.

A Premier League spokesman said:_
'The Premier League and its clubs have a long-held tradition of commemorating Remembrance Day. Each club will mark it in their own appropriate fashion and with many having relationships with parts of the Armed Forces, this weekend's matches are a good opportunity for them to celebrate that as well."

All games played on Sunday will be preceded by a minute's silence. On Saturday the Arsenal v Manchester United and Wigan v Stoke will have a silence. In Wigan there will also be a guard of honour provided by HMS Sceptre.
