The Football Associations of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland met this week to discuss proposals for a Four Nations Tournament.
The group considered the progress that had been made on the tournament so far and agreed that the competition between them could start in 2011. The competition would be held in one country on a rotational basis and matches would be played in February and May as double headers on the same day.
The four Associations felt that the competition, in this format, would be attractive to both the media and supporters and would provide respective international team managers with a meaningful competition in which to assess players.
The group's view was that present fixture congestion prevented them from starting the competition before 2011.
Further details on the Four Nations Tournament will be made available in due course.
