Rangers were defeated 2-1 by Ross County in a
Testimonial Match held in Dingwall tonight.
It was a disappointingly understrength Rangers team
that was fielded at Victoria Park, against a Ross
County side that included five guest players in a
Testimonial Match for Kenny Gilbert, who tragically
had to quit the game for medical reasons some eighteen
months ago. Regrettably only 858 spectators were
present due to a lack of publicity surrounding the
fixture.
County took the lead in fourteen minutes when Steven
McGarry netted from a Steven Mackay cross.
It was almost two on the half-hour when Callum
Reidford made a superb save, touching over a 25-yard
shot from Derek Adams.
The scores were levelled three minutes later when
Stephen Hughes drilled home an Andrew Dick pass after
home goalkeeper Colin Stewart had touched Darryl
Boyd's effort onto a post.
Amidst a plethora of substitutions, including an 82nd
minute appearance for Kenny Gilbert, the winning goal
arrived in 84 minutes when Mark McCulloch cut in from
the left before sending a rising shot into the net.
Stephen Hughes was the best player afield, and
deservedly won the 'Man of the Match' award.
