Ibrox Youngsters Hit Five

A young Rangers team were much too strong for St. Cuthbert Wanderers on Sunday afternoon, running out comprehensive 5-0 winners at St. Mary's Park, Kircudbright.

The match was a joint testimonial for long-serving Wanderers Mark Baker and Rodney Niven, and was the Ibrox club's first-ever visit to the ground on the banks of the Solway Firth, some 500 spectators braving the bitterly cold temperature.

Just one member of the visitors line-up had first-team competitive experience to his name - Alan Lowing.

Rangers took the lead in 25 minutes when Borja Lazaro cleverly netted following a neat build-up from Dean Furman and Andy Little.

That would prove to be the only goal of the first-half, but the visitors stepped up the pace after the interval, Little converting a Lazaro flick three minutes after the restart.

By the hour mark the Ibrox youngsters had chalked up two further goals - in 57 minutes Furman fed Little on the right, the latter's cross being converted by Jordan McMillan, then two minutes later Little raced clear on a long through-ball to rifle home number four.

There was just one more to come - Light Blue captain Dean Furman making it 5-0 in 77 minutes.
