Divide and Conquer

Despite the result of the AGM the online support remains pretty solidly committed for change at the club.  Quite how that comes about is of course the tricky bit.

Dave King sits on his cash mountain and gives us no clue.    It’s a poker game sure enough but the masses require information and hope.

On the other hand a decent enough slice of our fans content themselves that Chico, Imran and brian have left the building, and that in any case things aren’t that bad.   I think that’s a little too much wishful thinking.

Whoever was in charge of the club faces a hard time.   The Spiv Bloc of shareholders are hardly likely to inject more cash nor allow a share issue that would dilute them.  They’ll be pushing for cost cutting and any old Barnum and Bailey showmanship to get the season ticket money in the bank asap.

The problem is the possibilities for cost cutting are relatively few - many forget that the last years of David Murray’s reign saw loads of cost cutting measures.   There’s not a lot left - to maintain a ground like Ibrox means there is a level you simply can’t go below.   Players wages - high but they have watertight contracts and in any case we don’t need to try to get promoted twice more - we HAVE to be promoted.  The idea that you can reduce our wage bill drastically is wishful thinking.

I’d expect to see a few picked fights with Celtic, the SFA and the media.  I’d expect to see a “membership scheme” either launched or proposed - there’s certainly something afoot and the established groups have been excluded from input.   Anything to keep the eye off the ball concerning the finances of the club and practical measures to improve things meaningfully.

The board of the club have options but hard cash and the price you pay for it on the markets are the biggest problems we face.

I expect some hand to mouth loans to be taken out - either at exorbitant rates or provided free of charge by a director looking to curry favour as a good guy.

We all hope against hope that things are changing for the better - but trust is the major problem the current Board face - they just don’t have it and instead of working for it they’ve chosen a route which involves trying to stifle dissent from fans.   It’s not a bright idea in the internet age.

Beware of magic bullet solutions cropping up.
