The Evening Times today issued an apology to Sir David Murray over claims he was asked to stand down as Chairman. Doubtless either he or one of those men still content to kiss his posterior pushed for it, and applied personal pressure on those in charge of the title.
You may think 'good, isn't that a swift and simple example of Rangers dealing with mischievous or incorrect information' and it certainly illustrates that the Club can and do utilise PR when it suits.
Indeed. But hold on a moment: where has he been for the last twenty years when action should have been taken against the media outlets who have mocked the Rangers dead - and all under the Murray stewardship?
The Founders; William Struth; Davie Cooper; Jock Wallace (the latter two when their graves were still warm); hey, even the victims of the 1971 Ibrox Disaster: they have all had their memories besmirched by vermin who hate Rangers and who are - almost to a man - still alive and able to enter our stadium when they please.
What did he do in these instances? Nothing. He simply didn't care enough.
Criticise Sir David personally - even in tame terms - or make a mockery of Martin Bain and news outlets feel the full force of the Ibrox wrath.
We are well rid of such a vile, vain, man.
We must hope the next regime has a little more regard for Rangers and it brings a little less pandering to personal ego before the institution.
