Advocaat brought with him some fellow countrymen and other foreign names that really excited the Rangers fans. Arthur Numan, Giovanni Van Bronkhorst, Andrei Kanchelskis, Lionel Charbonnier, Daniel Prodan, Rod Wallace, and Gabriel Amato all arrived at Ibrox with huge pressure to deliver Trophies after a disappointing year.
Advocaat's team on the opening day against Hearts only had four players starting that started on Scottish Cup Final the previous Year. It all looked doom and gloom when in the UEFA cup against Irish minnows Shelbourne, Rangers trailed 3-0. But a remarkable fight back from Rangers lead by Gabriel Amato won the game 3-5. One of the most unforgettable games in Rangers History.
From there on Advocaat became a hero with the Gers faithful. Advocaat added other players to the team in laudio Reyna, Stefan Klos and Neil McCann and also Stephane Gu'varche. Some of the players he signed turned out to be super players, others not so good. But Advocaat won the treble in his first season.
And what a season it was, winning the league at Parkhead and then beating Celtic in the Scottish Cup final through a Rod Wallace goal. Second Season players left and players came, Tugay, Michael Mols and Billy Dodds to name a few. This season Advocaat won the double.
The following season was when Ricksen, Konterman arrived and it turned into a disaster as Martin O'Neill won the treble in his first season.
In Europe Rangers had two unlucky years. Needing only one point two years running but it wasn't to be. Advocaat has RANGERS playing excellent football and we matched or beat Bayern Munich, Parma, Leverkusen, Monaco to name a few.
Overall Advocaat was successful but his spending on players Like Flo and his inability to have the dressing room let him down.
Mr Le Guen has a similar entrance but can he do What Advocaat done only go the extra distance on a smaller budget? Time will tell but as a Ranger I have been taught by a player who will depart in the summer probably to KEEP BELIEVING.
